Dr. Amit K. Goyal

Controlled and Targeted Drug Delivery, Nanobiotechnology, Nanomedicine, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, formulation development and delivery of drugs, vaccines, herbal bioactives, hormones and probiotics

Education and training:

Dr. Amit K. Goyal did his B. Pharm. (2000) from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, and obtained his M. Pharm. (2003) and Ph.D. (2009) from Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar (Madhya Pradesh). He worked as a Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutics, at ISF College of Pharmacy, Moga, Punjab (Sep. 2008-Apr. 2018), where he was the Coordinator of ISFAL Pharma Venture incubation centre, a unique place where in ideas of students are converted into entrepreneurial reality. Subsequently, he joined as an Associate Professor at Gujarat Forensic Science University, Gandhinagar (Apr. 2018- Aug. 2018). Dr. Goyal joined NIAB on 21st August 2018.

Research experience and interests
Dr. Goyal has more than 10 years of research experience, with expertise in formulation development, targeting and delivery of drugs, vaccines and herbal bioactives. He focuses on convergent technologies in nanomedicine and exploring their potential in the field of biotechnology and vaccinology, specifically to overcome the obstacle of vaccine delivery via oral, nasal and pulmonary routes. The approaches involve selection of immunogenic segments and excipients, preformulation profiling, and formulation of thermodynamically unstable biomolecules, as well as delivery technologies such as polymeric nanoparticles, lipid nanocarriers, micellar systems and inorganic metal nanoparticles. He has special interest in electrospun nanofibers for drug delivery, especially in topical treatment of cancer, infectious diseases, mouth ulcer, and eye problems. At NIAB, Dr. Goyal’s primary focus is on development of novel and controlled veterinary drug delivery systems, with a projected ability to monitor the effects of pharmaceuticals, hormones, contraceptives, nutraceuticals, nutrients, food supplements, bioactive compounds, probiotics, chemicals and vaccines. He is also designing novel nano-construct(s) intended to transport drugs and antigens across biological barriers and deliver them to the target tissue. He is particularly involved in the translation of ideas from the institute through novel pharmaceutical technology.
